CHAPTER III. "The Summer of Covid" is a chapter of textured .925 silver original jewellery including chains, statement rings, bracelets, boot harnesses and key clips created completely by fluke. Before Alex Skeffington knew it, she realized that she had made a full jewellery collection for SS20 during the summer of Covid-19. The .925 silver jewellery was intended to cater to Alex’s current lifestyle and fashion styling needs. Her statement jewellery and attire became lighter as Toronto shut down due to the global pandemic and working from home, she only needed to leave her condo to walk her dog. “When you leave the house, you leave the house” is the daily fashion reminder Alex always tells herself. As Toronto became hotter and more humid, along being a complete germaphobe, she chose not to wear any of her collector pieces as the rule was to wash everything after being outside, and she didn’t want to ruin the fabrics just to walk the dog. Alex went to her storage unit and picked up her high school wardrobe which included bowling shirts, surfing board shorts, band tees and denim. She asked herself “how to make an old outfit look current?” Turns out, all she had to do was style all of the Alex Skeffington Metal Atelier chains and boot harnesses by draping them everywhere possible and made the fit look polished and effortless. Statement, textured pinky rings became a requirement so she could easily switch the gears on her bike. Meeting up with friends for park and beach drinks, she added more volume by stacking rings on rings on rings. Chains have become the Alex Skeffington Metal Atelier summer of 2020 jewellery collection staple. Eye chains, key clips, boot harnesses as belts have all made basic 15 year old apparel look fresh and fabulous.

The inspiration of the Alex Skeffington Metal Atelier Chapter III. “The Summer of Covid” is based on current lifestyle and styling needs. Along with memories growing up in the 90’s and creating with friends.

Cheesy nostalgic 90’s video edits and captures by Alex Skeffington. She styled the edit to compliment the story of her young experiences growing up playing around with VHS editing and every program that was available on the market that didn’t include dial up internet. There is just something about this summer where Alex truly feels she is living her childhood again, but is of legal age to drink alcohol while doing it.
